Pixel Icon Library
An open-source collection of 1,440+ pixelated icons designed on a 24px grid, inspired by HackerNoon's retro internet aesthetic.
The Pixel Icon Library is an open-source icon set originally created for HackerNoon.com and released as a standalone project at PixelIconLibrary.com. Designed by Devansh Chaudhary, the collection started with 120+ icons in 2023 and has grown to over 1,440 pixelated icons that capture the essence of the early internet era. Every icon is meticulously crafted on a 24px grid using SVG polygon and path elements to create the signature pixel-art look - no raster images, just clean vector shapes that scale perfectly. Icons are available as lightweight SVG files, PNG exports in 12px, 16px, 24px, and 48px sizes for both light and dark modes, and as an icon font with class-based usage (e.g. class=\"hn hn-github\"). The library can be installed via npm (@hackernoon/pixel-icon-library), used directly via HTML/CSS, or accessed through a Figma community file. Categories include brands/social media, UI elements, and general-purpose icons. Framework community packages are available for Svelte (flowbite-svelte-icons pattern), React, and Laravel Blade. The entire SVG collection totals only about 64.7 KB, making it extremely lightweight. The retro pixelated style makes it a unique choice for projects seeking a nostalgic, tech-forward aesthetic distinct from typical smooth-line icon sets.
